Plantation Direct works with a Honduran coffee farmers’ co-operative set up to protect and develop the livelihood of the farmers and their families. Much emphasis is placed on education, healthcare, community projects and environmental sustainability as well as developing the quality of the coffee grown. As with Fair Trade a fair price is paid for the coffee on to which Plantation Direct pays a 20% premium that is clearly shown on all invoices and is money that goes directly back to the farmers, cutting out the middlemen.

With Plantation Direct administration costs are kept to a minimum and there is full traceability of the coffee back to the Honduran farmers. Trading standards has approved the Plantation Direct approach to ethical coffee and the company has adopted the Ethical Trading Initiative Base Code ensuring the working conditions of the farmers meet or exceed international standards. By developing a direct relationship with the Honduran farmers through farm visits and project sponsorship, Plantation Direct has added a personal touch to the product.
